Babalu Fragrance is a Miami-based boutique, selling a large collection of unique and one-of-a-kind fragrances and fragrance-related beauty products.

What do you do when you have hundreds of scents, all of which are a unique combination of thousands of different elements? Our approach, build them an interaction where users can explore these individual elements as particles in a visualization, and dig further and further into a “scent map” until they find that perfect combination.

Utilizing the structured light sensors of the Kinect, we went able doing a “touch surface” a bit differently. We mounted the Kinect directly overhead, and used to scan a very small slice of the area below (just in front of the wall). Utilizing this approach, we were able to create touch interactions on a wall that is otherwise untouched. With a bit of callibration, we were able to seamlessly match this up with the projected experience.
